DHI (Choi) Hair Transplant

Unshaven Pen Implantation

Get information

DHI (Choi) Hair Transplant is a direct transfer method without channel opening. The grafts are placed directly into the scalp with special Choi pens, without needing to shave the recipient area. This makes it one of the unshaven hair transplant options.

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. The area between the two ears on the nape is set as the donor area. Suitable follicles are taken one by one from this area with the FUE method. The prepared grafts are loaded into special Choi pens and transferred directly to the recipient area.

In a DHI hair transplant, channels are not opened in advance as in the classic FUE method. Each graft is placed directly with a Choi pen, taking the natural direction, angle and placement of the follicle into account.

How Is DHI (Choi) Hair Transplant Applied?

Before a DHI hair transplant, the hair structure, current density, bald areas and donor area are assessed. The hairline and the areas to be transplanted are planned according to the person's face structure, existing hair and expectations.

The follicles taken from the donor area with the FUE method are prepared and loaded into the Choi pens one by one. As the pen enters the recipient area, it also allows the follicle inside to be placed directly.

This is how the hair transplant is performed without opening channels. Each follicle is placed directly at the set angle and direction. Especially when working between existing hair, the direction and angle of the follicles are planned to match the natural hair structure.

2

Who Is It Suitable For?

DHI (Choi) hair transplant can be a suitable method especially for people with hairline or regional bald areas who want to add density between their existing hair.

It may be considered in particular for:

  • People with a receding front hairline
  • People with regional bald areas
  • People who want to add density between their existing hair
  • People who do not want the recipient area shaved
  • Women who prefer an unshaven hair transplant
  • People with regional hair loss due to trauma or similar causes

While the person's preference and expectations matter in choosing the method, the structure of the hair and donor area, the extent of hair loss and the features of the recipient area are assessed by a specialist. Determining the most suitable method for the person based on this analysis is important for a natural, successful result.

Advantages of Unshaven DHI Hair Transplant

An unshaven hair transplant is a major advantage especially for patients who want to keep their existing hair. With the DHI method, work can be done between the existing hair without shaving the recipient area.

Placing the grafts directly with Choi pens allows controlled work, especially for the hairline and regional densification. The direction and angle of the follicles are set more precisely, aiming for a more natural look.

Using many Choi pens during the procedure and loading the grafts into the pens one by one make DHI hair transplant different from, and more specialised than, the classic Sapphire FUE method.

After the Procedure

DHI (Choi) Hair Transplant is performed under local anaesthesia. After an unshaven hair transplant, mild redness, sensitivity and crusting may be seen in the treated area.

The first wash is done on day 3. From the third day, the care and washing method recommended by our clinic is used.

The shedding of crusts and the settling of the implanted follicles are largely complete within about 10 days.

Shock loss may be seen in the implanted hair in the early period. During this time the visible hairs may fall out, but the follicles remain under the skin.

New hair usually starts to grow from the 3rd month. In the following months it continues to grow longer and denser. The hair comes together within 8 months to 1 year, varying from person to person.

5

Why Is DHI (Choi) Hair Transplant a More Specialised Procedure?

In the DHI method, loading each follicle into a Choi pen separately and then implanting it directly at the correct angle and direction requires more precision and experience.

Especially when implanting the front hairline and between existing hair, preserving the natural exit direction of the follicles and placing them at the right angle are important for a natural look.

Because of the number of Choi pens used and the one-by-one preparation and placement of the grafts, DHI hair transplant is a more costly procedure than the classic Sapphire FUE method.

Whether the method is applicable and how many grafts will be used are determined by the person's hair structure, donor area and needs.
